In Senegal, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has moved beyond the Pastef – Les Patriotes party, once led by his former ally and ex-Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The new political movement is called Kiiraay – Les Patriotes républicains, with ‘Kiiraay’ meaning ‘protection’ in Wolof. Faye now intends to make this principle the cornerstone of all his future political actions.
