A collective of descendants of Serigne Touba has announced its intention to take legal action against former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko following controversial remarks he made during a public gathering in Touba last Sunday.
According to Madiambal Diagne, a prominent journalist and director of Avenir Communication, Sonko allegedly asserted that diverted public funds are being distributed in Touba. These statements have sparked significant outrage, prompting the group to pursue legal recourse against the political figure.
The legal team representing Serigne Touba’s descendants will provide further details during an upcoming press conference. This briefing is expected to outline both the legal grounds and the specific motivations behind the lawsuit.
At present, Ousmane Sonko has not issued any public response regarding the impending legal challenge.
This development follows heightened tensions in the religious and political spheres of Senegal, particularly in Touba, a city of immense spiritual significance to the Mouride brotherhood.
