In a charged address delivered this past Sunday in Sadio, within the heart of the Diourbel region, Ousmane Sonko, leader of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, unleashed a scathing critique of the current administration’s governance, raising serious concerns about its direction.
The political figure, known for his unwavering stance, revisited the pivotal moments leading to Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s election as President of the Republic in March 2024. Sonko recalled his own pivotal role in securing Faye’s candidacy after his own disqualification from the race.
« He was propelled to the highest office, yet he has strayed from the very project that brought him there, betraying the hopes of the people who believed in change,» Sonko declared, his voice resonating with conviction.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the political vision once presented to the Senegalese people had drifted significantly from its original path, describing the situation as « a hope that has vanished.» He urged a return to the commitments made to citizens, stressing the urgency of realigning governance with the promises that defined the 2024 transition.
Sonko also underscored his own instrumental role in the political struggle that culminated in the 2024 shift in power, asserting that much of the movement’s momentum had been driven by his leadership. Looking ahead, he pointed to the 2026 and 2029 elections as critical milestones for advancing PASTEF’s political agenda, signaling his determination to keep the movement’s vision alive.
His remarks come at a time when questions linger about the relationship between the President and his Prime Minister, though no official response has yet emerged from the presidency.
