With its inaugural national congress less than three weeks away, the Pastef high command convened on Friday, May 15, at leader Ousmane Sonko’s residence in Cité Keur Gorgui. The crucial gathering aimed to steer the party towards its most significant structural transformation. Esteemed historical figures and pivotal lieutenants, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were among those present, answering the call to shape the party’s future.

The meeting’s agenda was meticulously crafted around the pressing political priorities of the coming weeks. Deliberations primarily focused on the logistical and strategic political dimensions of the upcoming national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains unconfirmed, indications suggest Diamniadio as a potential host location for this landmark event.

Ousmane Sonko underscored the paramount importance of the congress’s success, viewing it as crucial to demonstrating Pastef’s enduring political strength. Addressing his inner circle, he declared, “We must ensure the congress is a triumph and effectively re-energize the party.” Beyond the immediate preparations, Sonko extensively emphasized the imperative to restructure Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and operational efficiency.

The visionary leader of the Patriots also addressed the critical issue of widespread remobilization. He articulated a clear mandate: the party must vigorously engage with communities on the ground, reaching even the most remote regions. Following the session, El Malick Ndiaye, a prominent Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, conveyed an optimistic message on his Facebook page. He asserted that “beyond the challenges, promising horizons are emerging for our nation and our collective endeavor. These prospects, laden with hope, advancement, and sovereignty, we shall diligently continue to forge together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and steadfast commitment.”
