Morocco reaffirms commitment to African integration and development

Strengthening South-South cooperation took center stage during a recent meeting in Addis Ababa between Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Mohamed Arrouchi, and UNECA’s Executive Secretary, Claver Gatete.

Advancing shared economic ambitions

The high-level discussion focused on deepening collaboration between Morocco and UNECA, emphasizing the Kingdom’s unwavering dedication to continental unity and Africa’s sustainable growth. At the meeting, Claver Gatete praised Morocco’s pivotal role in hosting the 58th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development in Tangier from March 28 to April 3. He also recognized Morocco’s ongoing support for UNECA’s initiatives.

Morocco’s technical training model highlighted as a regional blueprint

During the talks, Gatete commended Morocco’s technical and vocational education system, describing it as an innovative and integrated model that bridges skill development, cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, and industrialization needs. He urged African nations to adopt similar approaches, stressing the importance of sharing successful strategies to accelerate the continent’s economic transformation.

“Morocco’s experience in technical education is a testament to how innovation and adaptability can drive inclusive growth,” Gatete noted, emphasizing the need to scale such models across Africa.

Since UNECA’s establishment in 1958, Morocco has been an active participant in its programs, contributing to regional cooperation and the acceleration of Africa’s economic integration. The recent meeting in Addis Ababa reaffirmed this long-standing commitment, with both parties exploring new avenues to enhance their strategic alliance.
