French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu arrives in Rabat for strategic talks

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu landed in Rabat on Wednesday evening for a two-day official visit aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between France and Morocco.

He was welcomed upon arrival by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, accompanied by a delegation of twelve French ministers. This visit follows a period of diplomatic rapprochement after years of occasionally strained relations between Paris and Rabat.

During his stay, Sébastien Lecornu and Aziz Akhannouch will hold a bilateral meeting before co-chairing the 15th High-Level French-Moroccan Meeting. This dialogue framework, considered one of the key consultation platforms between the two nations, has not convened since 2019.

Discussions will focus on strengthening economic exchanges, fostering cross-border investments, deepening security and defense cooperation, and addressing energy, infrastructure, and ecological transition challenges.

French and Moroccan authorities anticipate the signing of around fifteen agreements during this high-level meeting.

Key areas include civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electricity interconnection, security cooperation, and several cultural initiatives.

In the cultural sphere, both sides are set to finalize a strategic partnership between the Arab World Institute in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture. The goal is to enhance artistic, heritage, and academic exchanges between the two countries.
