Tensions escalated rapidly as the final whistle blew. On the Champs-Élysées, a group of young individuals targeted a bus shelter, forcing police to intervene. Near the Parc des Princes, officers came under fire from fireworks, prompting the use of tear gas and the first arrests. Later that evening, a fleet of shared bicycles was set ablaze, and violent clashes erupted between protesters and law enforcement along the iconic Parisian avenue.

The Périphérique beltway became a battleground as motorcyclists weaved through gridlocked traffic, some driving against the flow. A 24-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after crashing into a concrete barrier erected to block the road. By dawn, a 17-year-old had been critically injured in a knife attack and remains in a coma.

57 law enforcement officers injured

By Sunday morning, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that 57 police officers and gendarmes had been injured nationwide. “We observed a significant surge in projectile launches and fireworks, with a marked increase in attacks on security forces,” he stated. Footage from the 8th arrondissement of Paris showed an individual firing volleys of fireworks at officers.

Unrest spread to over a dozen French cities, including Grenoble in the Isère department, where stores were vandalized and looted. Authorities reported 780 arrests nationwide, with 457 individuals still in custody as of Sunday evening.
