Under the theme Turning vision into action, the Africa Water Forum concluded in N’Djamena this past Thursday, wrapping up two days of deliberations on the pressing challenges of water access and sustainable resource management across the continent. Jointly hosted by the Chadian government and the World Bank Group, the event brought together African leaders, technical partners, financial contributors, and sector experts.

From promises to progress: the call for tangible results

At the close of the forum, Farouk Mollah Banna, representing the World Bank Group, emphasized the urgency of converting pledges into measurable outcomes for communities.

“The hopes of millions for improved, reliable, and equitable access to water, food, and sustainable livelihoods hinge on how swiftly and effectively the commitments made here are put into practice on the ground,” he stated.

Chad’s Prime Minister highlights the critical role of Lake Chad

Allah Maye Halina, Chad’s Prime Minister, placed the Lake Chad Basin at the forefront of continental priorities, stressing its significance far beyond the borders of the riparian states.

“Protecting the Lake Chad Basin is not just a regional responsibility—it is a global imperative that shapes peace, development, and food security for over 30 million people,” he declared. “It is time to elevate the future of Lake Chad to the top of Africa’s and the world’s agenda.”

The forum’s organizers are now looking ahead, hopeful that the discussions and resolutions will swiftly translate into real-world interventions benefiting African societies.
