Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, has become the focal point for significant consultations concerning the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (RDC) ongoing political crisis. Since this past weekend, a diverse array of Congolese delegations has converged in the city, responding to an invitation extended by Évariste Ndayishimiye, who serves as both the Burundian Head of State and the current Chairperson of the African Union.
Among the key attendees are prominent members of the C64 opposition coalition’s presidium. Martin Fayulu, Delly Sesanga, Dieudonné Bolengetenge, Jean Marc Kabund, and Francklin Tshiamala have all arrived in Bujumbura and are slated for an important meeting with President Ndayishimiye.
Religious institutions are also playing a crucial role in these high-stakes discussions. Archbishop Ejiba Yamapia, who leads the Platform of Religious Confessions and Revival Churches in the RDC, is present, alongside representatives from the influential Catholic Church and the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC).
These pivotal consultations in Bujumbura bring together both the RDC’s political opposition and its leading religious denominations, all united in their commitment to addressing and resolving the profound political challenges currently facing the nation.
