Prominent religious figure Serigne Habib Sy formally declared his allegiance to Pastef during a recent meeting with Ousmane Sonko in Diaksao. He conveyed his intention to acquire a party membership card, thereby publicly demonstrating his backing for the political movement led by Sonko.
Ahead of the revered Mawlid celebration in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as both the President of the National Assembly and the influential leader of Pastef, undertook a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with various religious guides. During his stay, Sonko was hosted by Serigne Habib Sy, who seized the moment to openly affirm his affiliation with the ruling political party.
Addressing his distinguished guest, the spiritual leader unequivocally conveyed his desire to formalize his commitment to Pastef. “I am a member of Pastef. I intend to purchase a membership card very soon. However, I am unsure how to complete the registration process through the online platform,” Serigne Habib Sy stated. Ousmane Sonko promptly assured him that he would personally facilitate this process. “I will personally deliver your membership card to you,” the Pastef leader responded.
Serigne Habib Sy’s declaration aligns with a history of his civic involvement and public engagement. Notably, the son of the late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh previously joined the “Y en a marre” movement in February 2021. Several years on, he is now publicly demonstrating his solidarity with Pastef and announcing his firm intention to solidify his membership within the party.
