Algiers — Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, and Chad’s Minister of Water and Energy, Passalé Kanabé Marcelin, officially signed an agreement on Thursday in Algiers to construct a 40-megawatt power plant in N’Djamena.

The deal underscores both nations’ commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, aligning with Algeria’s strategic vision under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to bolster support for African partners and advance South-South collaboration.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in energy infrastructure development for Chad, addressing critical electricity needs while reinforcing economic ties between Algeria and Chad. The 40 MW facility will substantially enhance N’Djamena’s power generation capacity, supporting local industries and improving living standards.

Minister Adjal emphasized the project’s alignment with Algeria’s broader regional energy initiatives, designed to foster sustainable development and energy security across the continent. Chad’s Minister Marcelin highlighted the project’s potential to stimulate economic growth and reduce dependence on imported power.

Key objectives of the agreement

  • Economic collaboration: Strengthening trade and investment ties between Algeria and Chad.
  • Energy independence: Reducing Chad’s reliance on external power sources.
  • Sustainable development: Promoting clean energy solutions and regional energy security.

This initiative reflects both countries’ dedication to mutual progress and shared prosperity, setting a precedent for future joint ventures in energy and infrastructure.
