Algeria and Chad have formalized a new agreement to streamline infrastructure and public works projects, including the long-awaited Trans-Saharan Highway. The pact was signed in N’Djamena on Thursday, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Road Unblocking, and Maintenance, inked the deal during a high-level coordination meeting. The gathering took place on the second day of an Algerian delegation’s working visit to Chad, bringing together key stakeholders from both countries.
Among the attendees were the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation and Solidarity, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and representatives from the Cosider group and the National Public Works Company (SNTP). Chad’s delegation included a deputy minister overseeing infrastructure and senior officials.
Immediate momentum for shared projects
During the discussions, Chad’s Infrastructure Minister highlighted the rapid progress being made in implementing bilateral agreements since their initial signing in Alger last April. He pointed to tangible advances, such as joint technical assessments and the initiation of feasibility studies for the Trans-Saharan Highway, which will traverse Chad’s territory.
This latest accord aims to remove bureaucratic hurdles and accelerate the execution of infrastructure initiatives, reinforcing the strategic partnership between Algeria and Chad.
