Following the confirmation of an imported Bundibugyo strain Ebola virus disease case on French soil, Jean Kaseya, the Director-General of Africa CDC, engaged in productive discussions with Stéphanie Rist, France’s Minister of Health.

During these crucial talks, Mr. Kaseya expressed significant appreciation for France’s pledge that no travel restrictions would be imposed in connection with this recently identified case.

The individual involved is a Congolese humanitarian doctor, a resident of France, who had been actively participating in the Ebola response efforts in Ituri, Democratic Republic of Congo, on behalf of the NGO ALIMA. He received his positive diagnosis after arriving in France. This marks the initial confirmed instance of an Ebola case within French territory.

Mr. Kaseya underscored the unwavering commitment of Africa CDC, the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), alongside French and Congolese authorities. Their collective dedication remains focused on containing the epidemic, safeguarding communities, and advancing a unified, continent-wide and global response.
