Responding to an invitation from the UNESCO Club of the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs Abderhamane Baba Touré (ENI-ABT), the UNESCO Office in Mali actively participated in the awards ceremony of the 16 Inter-High School Excellence Competition. This significant event, held at ENI-ABT on Saturday, July 4, 2026, drew together a diverse group of high school students, university students, dedicated teachers, senior academic officials, and various partners. The collective aim was to champion and cultivate excellence among Malian youth, particularly within the vital fields of science and innovation.

During his opening remarks, Dr. Kélétigui DAOU, the Director General of ENI-ABT, extended his sincere gratitude to UNESCO for its valuable involvement in the activity. He lauded the Organization’s unwavering commitment to advancing education across Mali. Dr. DAOU specifically highlighted UNESCO’s crucial initiatives focused on expanding access for girls to STIM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, as well as their persistent efforts to foster scientific research and innovation among young people.

Furthermore, she emphasized the pivotal role that UNESCO Clubs play in instilling fundamental values such as active citizenship, peace, and sustainable development within the youth community.

Mme Oumou Dicko, UNESCO’s Science Programs Officer, offered her congratulations to both the organizers for the successful execution of this year’s competition and to the students for their consistent dedication. She outlined several valuable opportunities provided by UNESCO specifically for young individuals pursuing research, including prestigious scholarships, mentorship programs, and avenues for participation in various international days observed by the Organization. Mme Dicko passionately encouraged students at all levels to deepen their engagement in science and innovation-focused disciplines, affirming that such commitment is essential for contributing to the sustained development of their nation.
