The helm of Togo’s power utility undergoes a shake-up

The Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET) has seen a significant shift in its leadership as Débo-K’mba Barandao steps down from his role as director-general. While no formal announcement has been made regarding the reasons behind this decision, the move unfolds against a backdrop of persistent challenges in electricity delivery and service quality across the nation.

Since taking office in March 2022, Barandao spearheaded multiple restructuring initiatives aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency within the state-owned utility. His tenure was characterized by ambitious projects to overhaul both organizational and operational frameworks, yet lingering infrastructure and reliability concerns continue to test the sector’s resilience.

Under his leadership, the CEET remained a pivotal player in Togo’s energy landscape, despite facing recurring issues such as frequent blackouts and the urgent need for modernization. These obstacles have repeatedly drawn attention to the company’s ability to meet growing demand while ensuring stable power supply to households and businesses alike.

As of now, authorities have yet to disclose details about his successor or the timeline for a new appointment. A replacement is expected to be named shortly to maintain operational stability and sustain momentum on critical reforms.
