The capital city of Chad, N’Djamena, has taken a significant step toward elevating the standard of journalism in the country. On August 6, 2026, the Institut Supérieur du Journalisme et de la Communication du Tchad (ISJCT) and the Association des Médias en Ligne du Tchad (AMET) formalized a groundbreaking partnership aimed at bridging the gap between academic training and real-world media practice.

Partnership signing ceremony between ISJCT and AMET in Chad

Building the future of Tchadian journalism through collaboration

This strategic alliance is designed to enhance the quality of journalism in Chad by fostering closer ties between the ISJCT’s academic programs and the practical needs of media professionals. The agreement outlines a comprehensive framework that includes internships, continuous professional development, and targeted support for aspiring journalists.

Under the terms of the partnership, students from the ISJCT will gain hands-on experience through internships at AMET-affiliated media outlets. This initiative not only enriches their education but also provides a smoother transition into the professional world. Simultaneously, the agreement will amplify the ISJCT’s visibility by integrating its programs into the extensive network of AMET member organizations.

Expanding skills and addressing modern media challenges

The collaboration between the two institutions goes beyond student placements. A structured continuing education program will be launched to equip journalists, editors, newsroom managers, and media executives with advanced skills. Key training areas include:

  • Emerging journalistic practices and digital transformation
  • Digital journalism and multimedia storytelling
  • Fact-checking and information verification
  • Newsroom management and organizational leadership
  • Media business models and revenue strategies
  • Artificial intelligence applications in journalism
  • Ethical standards and professional integrity
  • Safety protocols and security for journalists

Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, a representative of the ISJCT project, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: « An institution dedicated to journalism cannot thrive in isolation. Media professionals are our partners in education, our training grounds, and the future employers of our graduates. »

Bello Bakary Mana, President of AMET, praised the initiative, highlighting its dual benefit: « This partnership empowers media companies to actively shape the training of the next generation of journalists while offering professionals the chance to refine their expertise. With the ISJCT, the path to excellence is within reach. »

A new era for media education in Chad

The ISJCT is an ambitious project spearheaded by the MEDEV NGO, with strong backing from international partners including the Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie. Set to welcome its first cohort of students in October 2026, the institute aspires to become a leading center for initial training, research, innovation, and professional development in journalism, communication, and media management.

The founding mission of the ISJCT, as envisioned by MEDEV, is to establish a specialized higher education institution in Chad dedicated to equipping the next generation of journalists, communication professionals, and media managers with the skills needed to meet the evolving demands of the industry.
