Senegal’s apr party launches strong criticism against ousmane sonko in touba

The Alliance for the Republic (APR) is escalating its efforts in Touba following the detention of Pape Malick Ndour, asserting that his arrest is part of a politically motivated scheme by the current administration. A delegation from the party presented its case for justice before Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, reigniting discussions on the interplay of justice and politics across Senegal.

The Alliance for the Republic (APR) has taken a firm stance after the arrest and incarceration of its national coordinator, Pape Malick Ndour, in connection with the Community Agricultural Domains Program (Prodac) case. On Monday, May 18, 2026, a delegation from the Convergence of Republican Cadres (CCR) traveled to Touba to meet with the General Khalife of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, to present their perspective on the evolving situation in Senegal politics.

This visit marks the beginning of a planned series of engagements with various religious families across Senegal. APR officials contend that their comrade’s imprisonment transcends mere judicial boundaries, viewing it as a calculated political offensive targeting their party.

Before the General Khalife of the Mourides, the CCR representatives vehemently condemned what they described as an injustice and a process biased against Pape Malick Ndour. They maintain that Ndour is being held as part of a “political cabal” orchestrated by the current administration.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Bocar Diongue articulated his political faction’s position. He stated, “We are in Touba today, commencing a tour of Senegal’s religious families. We met with the General Khalife of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké, to whom we explained the full context of our comrade Minister Pape Malick Ndour’s unjust imprisonment.”

allegations of injustice and denial of responsibility

Republican leaders assert that the charges brought against their coordinator lack direct evidence of his involvement in Prodac’s management. They explain that the Inspectorate General of Finance’s report, central to this case, predates Pape Malick Ndour’s tenure at the program’s helm.

Bocar Diongue reiterated the timeline presented by APR: “The Inspectorate General of Finance’s report on Prodac’s management dates back to 2018. In truth, our comrade Pape Malick Ndour had no involvement, direct or indirect, in Prodac’s management during that period. It was only in 2019 that Pape Malick Ndour was appointed coordinator. This clearly means the report does not concern him. Yet, he is now imprisoned based on a Prodac report.”

Within APR, this matter is portrayed as another instance in a pattern of prosecutions targeting figures from the previous government. Republican cadres argue that several prominent members have already faced legal challenges, viewing these proceedings as politically motivated attacks on Senegal politics.

In this vein, Bocar Diongue expanded his remarks beyond Pape Malick Ndour’s specific case. He declared, “Yesterday, it was comrade Farba Ngom and many others among us who were imprisoned without a shred of evidence. Among them are Mansour Faye, Moustapha Diop, and numerous others. The sole reason our comrades are incarcerated is their ‘sin’ of belonging to the Alliance for the Republic.”

accusations leveled against ousmane sonko

The delegation openly accused Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, holding him accountable for these legal actions. Their spokesperson articulated this position unequivocally. “It is Ousmane Sonko who is behind all these imprisonments; we declare it loudly and clearly. But let him know that the fight will continue, whatever the cost,” Bocar Diongue asserted.

Following their visit to Touba, the CCR delegation continued its tour to Thiénaba. APR officials were received there by the General Khalife of Thiénaba, Serigne Assane Seck. According to delegation members, this meeting included prayers for Pape Malick Ndour and messages of support for the former minister, further underscoring the ongoing tensions in West Africa’s Senegal politics.
