In a move rooted in personal conviction, Dr Bacary Thior, a senior advisor in the Primature Cabinet, has tendered his resignation following the removal of Ousmane Sonko as Prime Minister of Senegal.
The announcement, delivered in a public statement on Thursday, underscored Dr Thior’s adherence to principle over position. While formally departing his role, he reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to public service, expressing readiness to contribute wherever his expertise may be required.

In his official statement, Dr Thior cited the transition at the helm of government as the decisive factor behind his resignation. He emphasized acting in strict accordance with his personal ethics, stating: ‘With the conclusion of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s term, I have chosen to leave the Cabinet in alignment with my principles.’
Despite stepping away, he extended his full support to Ousmane Sonko, who continues to lead the Pastef party and serves as President of the National Assembly. Dr Thior also conveyed gratitude to his colleagues for their collaboration and acknowledged any shortcomings with humility, seeking mutual understanding.
