A match decided in the final minutes

The final against Arsenal began with an early setback as the English side took the lead within five minutes of the kickoff. The Parisian side, however, demonstrated remarkable resilience by equalizing in the 64th minute through a converted penalty taken by French forward Ousmane Dembélé.

The tension remained palpable through 90 minutes of regulation play and 30 additional minutes of extra time, with neither team able to break the deadlock. The championship was ultimately decided in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, where PSG emerged victorious.

Joining an elite group of champions

With this back-to-back victory, Paris Saint-Germain has etched its name alongside footballing giants, becoming only the second club in the modern Champions League era to achieve consecutive titles. The feat was previously accomplished by Real Madrid under the guidance of Zinedine Zidane, who secured three consecutive championships from 2016 to 2018.

Next stop: FIFA World Cup preparations

Seven French players featured in this 71st edition of the Champions League final: Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, and Ousmane Dembélé from PSG, along with William Saliba from Arsenal. These players will now join the Équipe de France at the INF Clairefontaine training center to prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. A pre-tournament friendly match against Côte d’Ivoire is scheduled for June 4 at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.
