Ligue des champions: le dispositif pour la finale s’affine, il n’y aura pas de parade sur les Champs Élysées en cas de victoire
The evening of May 30th presents a complex security challenge for Paris. In addition to the Champions League final, several concerts are scheduled throughout the Parisian region. This convergence of events is expected to draw between 150,000 and 200,000 people into the capital’s streets, whether for football, tennis, or musical performances. Consequently, the Police Prefecture is implementing an extensive security apparatus across Paris. The entire weekend is set to be exceptionally demanding for the city’s internal security forces.
To manage the anticipated crowds and ensure public safety, traffic will be completely prohibited starting Friday evening at 5 PM, extending until Sunday morning. The security perimeter established by the Paris Police Prefecture covers a significant portion of the 8th arrondissement. Furthermore, parking will be strictly forbidden within a more confined area encompassing the entirety of the Champs-Élysées and several adjacent avenues, including Avenue Montaigne. These traffic restrictions also extend to other central districts, such as the 16th and 17th arrondissements. Pedestrian access, however, will remain permitted throughout these zones.
Around the Parc des Princes, where PSG is hosting its official fan zone, security forces will deploy a standard match-day protocol. Last year’s fan zone, held in a secure and enclosed environment, proved to be a resounding success during the previous Champions League final, offering a safe space for supporters to celebrate.
Champ de Mars considered for victory celebrations
As with previous seasons, authorities are meticulously planning for all potential outcomes during security meetings. In the event of a PSG victory on Saturday night, plans for Sunday’s celebrations are being coordinated closely with the club. It has been confirmed that a parade on the Champs-Élysées will not take place this year, a decision echoed by the 8th arrondissement town hall. Last year, similar festivities on the famed avenue attracted an estimated 110,000 people. Behind the scenes, the 8th arrondissement had already communicated this message to local business owners.
A new alternative location is now emerging for potential celebrations: the Champ de Mars, situated in the 7th arrondissement of the capital. An informed source acknowledged that this option is currently “on the table” and is, in fact, the priority for all involved parties. The Paris Police Prefecture intends to request a traffic and parking ban around the Champ de Mars from Saturday, May 30th, at 10 PM until Sunday, May 31st, at 8 PM, to facilitate “the smooth running of a festive event.” If this plan is confirmed, a victory against Arsenal could see Luis Enrique’s players celebrating with the iconic Eiffel Tower as their backdrop, a powerful image that significantly boosts France’s and PSG’s international profile and is crucial for post-win festivities.
When contacted, Paris Saint-Germain stated that the club is currently “fully focused on preparing the events organized for May 30th, the day of the final.” The club also informed us that, at present, “no decision has been made and no announcement is planned” regarding any post-match celebrations following Saturday’s game in Hungary. They assured that, “should the occasion arise, organizational matters will be fully coordinated with the relevant authorities.”
