Niamey, July 27, 2026 – High-level consultations among leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) continued today against the backdrop of nationwide commemorations marking three years since the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) assumed power. This morning, General Mohamed Toumba, Niger’s Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, received Bassolma Bazié, Chair of Burkina Faso’s national commission for the AES Confederation.
Mr. Bazié, in Niamey to attend the anniversary events, paid a courtesy visit to the Interior Ministry ahead of his meeting with General Toumba. The two officials used the opportunity to review pressing regional priorities that are shaping the agenda of the AES member states.
Bolstering regional security cooperation within the AES
During the meeting, Mr. Bazié commended Niger’s ongoing security initiatives, highlighting the country’s commitment to protecting its citizens and reinforcing stability both domestically and across the AES region. The discussions underscored the shared resolve of member states to deepen collaboration in addressing mutual challenges, with security concerns remaining a top priority for the alliance.
