Niamey, July 27, 2026 – High-level consultations within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are intensifying alongside events marking the third anniversary of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) taking power. Today, General Mohamed Toumba, Niger’s Minister of State for Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration, received Bassolma Bazié, Burkina Faso’s representative to the AES Confederation’s national commission.
Bazié, in Niamey for the commemorative activities, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Interior where the meeting took place. The two officials used this opportunity to discuss pressing issues shaping the agenda of AES member states.
Strengthening security cooperation within the AES Confederation
During the discussions, Bassolma Bazié commended Niger’s recent security initiatives, particularly efforts to protect civilians and bolster stability both domestically and across the confederation’s broader territory. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for coordinated action to address shared security challenges affecting the region.
The talks highlighted the AES’s commitment to deepening institutional collaboration. Security remains a top priority for the alliance, which is actively working to harmonize responses to evolving threats in the Sahel.
Advancing institutional dialogue among AES member states
This meeting follows a series of high-level exchanges between political and institutional leaders from AES countries during Niamey’s commemorative events. These interactions underscore a shared determination to strengthen bonds among the three member states and enhance coordination mechanisms established since the confederation’s inception.
By welcoming Burkina Faso’s delegation, General Toumba underscored the vital role of institutional dialogue in advancing the AES’s collective goals—security, stability, and regional integration.
