In a decisive move to reclaim public space, the municipal authorities of N’Djamena’s 7th district have initiated a sweeping operation to clear encroachments along Taïwan Avenue. The campaign, launched this Monday, is designed to restore order, enhance road safety, and uplift the urban environment in one of the capital’s most congested zones.

Under the leadership of District Mayor Adoum Hassan Djimet, the operation targets unauthorized structures, street vendors occupying roadways, and stray animals that contribute to hazardous driving conditions. The mayor emphasized the urgency of the situation, citing frequent traffic jams and fatal accidents as direct consequences of unchecked public space encroachment.

In a public address, Mayor Djimet called for collective responsibility. « Public roads must remain accessible. I urge every resident of the 7th district to embrace this change. Every day, lives are lost because reckless obstructions turn our streets into death traps. »

Strict enforcement is now in effect. Violators risk immediate removal of their goods, while stray animals will be impounded. The mayor’s message was clear: unauthorized occupation of public roads ends today.
