The bonds of cooperation between Gabon and Mauritania have deepened further through a recent high-level diplomatic engagement. During a meeting hosted by Gabon’s head of state, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the Mauritanian delegation led by Messouda Bahama Mohamed Laghdaf—special envoy of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani—shared a strategic message from Nouakchott.

The Mauritanian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development reaffirmed her nation’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Gabon. These relations, rooted in mutual respect and shared solidarity, have consistently thrived on sustained dialogue addressing key regional and global challenges.

Highlighting this momentum, she formally introduced Mauritania’s bid to lead the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). Championed by Dr. Koumba Ba, the campaign centers on three core pillars: coherence, balance, and tangible utility for Francophonie member states. The proposal emphasizes pragmatic governance and inclusive decision-making to drive collective progress across French-speaking nations.

The discussions underscored the robust and seamless nature of diplomatic exchanges between Libreville and Nouakchott. In response, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s dedication to consensus-building and collaborative governance—values that guide its continental and international engagements.

This encounter reflects Gabon’s proactive diplomatic stance, reinforcing its commitment to diversifying African partnerships while advocating for a Francophonie that prioritizes development, innovation, and equitable cooperation among its members.
