In his official message, Rubio highlighted the enduring bond between the two nations, stating, «For nearly 250 years, the United States and Morocco have maintained the oldest friendship in American history. This partnership is built on shared values and a joint commitment to peace, security, and prosperity.»
The U.S. diplomat expressed his heartfelt greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, emphasizing the significance of the occasion. His message, released by the State Department, underscored the deepening collaboration between Washington and Rabat across multiple sectors in the coming years.
Rubio reaffirmed that «together, we will continue to advance regional stability and economic growth, benefiting both our nations.» He further stressed the importance of the U.S.-Morocco alliance, noting that «under President Trump’s leadership, the United States unequivocally recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and supports the Kingdom’s autonomy proposal as the only credible path to a lasting solution.»
The American official dismissed alternative approaches, asserting that «any other path would only perpetuate the status quo and is unacceptable.» He added, «A genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty offers this region and the continent the opportunity to move forward after five decades of stagnation.»
Rubio also praised Morocco’s pivotal role in fostering regional security, particularly through its leadership in the Abraham Accords. «Under His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s guidance, Morocco stands as a cornerstone of stability in the region,» he noted. «The United States places great importance on this partnership and looks forward to strengthening collaboration to ensure Sahel security.»
