Military leadership declares regained initiative against JNIM and FLN in Mali
The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in their operational posture, asserting full control over previously contested zones targeted by armed factions. Recent engagements have seen government troops neutralize threats posed by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (FLN) in northern regions and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM)—an Al-Qaeda affiliate—in central and southern Mali.
Renewed clashes in Anifif highlight strategic resilience
On Sunday, fierce fighting erupted in Anifif, a strategic location in northeastern Mali roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following a surge of reinforcements dispatched to the FLN. In response, Malian defense units executed a robust counteroffensive, sustaining combat operations throughout the day with unwavering resolve and tactical precision.
The army’s official statement emphasized the professionalism and dedication of its forces, noting: « The enemy’s attempt to destabilize our positions met with resolute resistance. Our troops fought with unshakable determination, upholding the highest standards of military discipline. »

In a bold declaration, FAMA reaffirmed its absolute confidence in the nation’s defense capabilities, vowing to safeguard Mali’s territorial integrity and protect its citizens. The statement underscored the military’s resolve to dismantle hostile forces and restore peace across all regions.
The FLN’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier asserted control over Anfif during a recent surge in hostilities. However, he categorically denied reports of the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that Ag Akli remains actively engaged in directing field operations in northern Mali.
