The National Transport Company (CNT) has officially commenced operations, emerging from the strategic merger of Trans’Urb and SOGATRA. This significant structural overhaul, championed by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, aims to equip Gabon with a contemporary, dependable, and accessible public transit network. More than a mere restructuring, the CNT embodies an enhanced public service vision, prioritizing resource optimization and an elevated passenger experience.

strong social commitment and a modern fleet rollout

A key achievement of this merger is its human dimension. The reform successfully safeguarded 1,303 jobs, ensuring vital social stability for many families. Far from maintaining the status quo, the company is committed to skill development, with over 200 drivers already completing advanced training in road safety and customer service protocols.

On the ground, the CNT is deploying an initial fleet of 142 brand-new buses. Within Greater Libreville, this translates into 28 routes serving 609 distinct stops. The nation’s interior is also seeing significant benefits, with seven interurban services already active, marking the beginning of a gradual network expansion across the entire territory. For passengers, the advantages are immediate: reduced waiting times, more consistent schedules, and a safer alternative to informal transport options.

cutting-edge technical infrastructure

To underpin this ambitious undertaking, the former SOGATRA technical base has undergone a complete transformation, spearheaded by the Minister of State for Transport, Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi. Enhanced maintenance workshops, modernized technical pits, and reconfigured parking areas now provide optimal conditions for accommodating the new fleet.

A significant technological advancement is the integration of a real-time supervision and regulation control room. This central hub enables continuous monitoring of all buses, ensuring immediate responsiveness to any traffic incidents or operational disruptions.

forging a sustainable economic model

The CNT departs from previous paradigms by embracing a self-sustaining financial model. Revenue collected through ticket sales will be directly reinvested into the rigorous upkeep of vehicles, ongoing maintenance, and future fleet renewals.

Through this extensive transformation, the Gabonese government reaffirms its commitment to leveraging mobility as a powerful catalyst for social inclusion and economic growth, profoundly enhancing the daily lives of all Gabonese citizens.
