It’s official: Ewen Jaouen is leaving Stade de Reims. The Champagne club announced on Wednesday, June 10, that the 20-year-old goalkeeper has been transferred to Newcastle United of the English Premier League. Jaouen joined the Rouge et Blanc three years ago. This move places him among the top 15 most valuable goalkeepers in football history.
After several loan spells, Jaouen delivered a stellar first full season with Stade de Reims this campaign. He kept 15 clean sheets, the best record in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 combined. In a statement, the Reims club praised him as “one of the most promising last lines in French football.” Called up for the first time to the France under-21 squad this year, the young Breton “impresses with his reflex saves, composure on the ball and great maturity.”
Involvement with young footballers in the Marne region
Stade de Reims had placed its faith in him as early as 2023. After a first half-season with the Pro 2 group, the goalkeeper went on several loans, notably to Rodez. At the Aveyron club, at age 18 he became the youngest starting goalkeeper in the five major European leagues and their second divisions. The following season he joined Dunkerque, where his team reached the Coupe de France semi-finals.
Beyond his on-field role, Ewen Jaouen was actively involved with young players at AS Gueux, coaching them several times a week. When his schedule allowed, he also joined them on pitches across the department on weekends. Just before his departure, the children came to spend a last moment with him at the Raymond Kopa training centre.
