Abidjan, 30 June 2026 (AIP) – The Alliance of Ivorians for Democracy (AID) and the Union of Popular Masses for Peace (UMPP) commended the government on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 in Abidjan for deciding to undertake an electoral governance reform. They noted that this decision reflects the authorities’ readiness to listen to concerns raised by political players and civil society organisations.
In a statement read by its spokesperson, Zadi Djédjé, the grouping expressed its satisfaction following an information meeting held on 22 June at the Prime Minister’s office, chaired by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, which focused on reforming the electoral management body.
According to the AID-UMPP, the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), whose members’ mandate had expired, along with the announcement of a new electoral governance framework, constitutes a response to demands made for several years by political parties and various civil society organisations.
The grouping considers that this reform opens ‘a new chapter’ in the organisation of elections in Côte d’Ivoire, aiming to enhance the transparency of the electoral process, restore trust among political actors, and prevent pre- and post-election crises.
The AID-UMPP also acknowledged the achievements recorded by the CEI while welcoming the government’s willingness to establish a new system based on three separate bodies, respectively responsible for the material organisation of elections, vote counting, and overall supervision of the electoral process.
For the AID-UMPP, this reform rests on principles of professionalisation, neutrality, transparency, and efficiency, which are likely to sustainably strengthen institutional stability and boost the credibility of polls.
Furthermore, the grouping invited political parties, civil society organisations, community leaders, and all stakeholders in the electoral process to support the implementation of this reform in a spirit of responsibility, patriotism, and dialogue.
While urging the government to continue its efforts for stability and national cohesion, the AID-UMPP called on political actors to trust in the institutions of the republic, stressing that respect for institutions remains an essential factor for consolidating democracy and preserving peace in Côte d’Ivoire.
