Chad’s AMGT validates strategic documents, propelling N’Djamena’s urban future
A crucial workshop in N’Djamena saw the validation of strategic documents for the Municipal Agency for Major Works (AMGT), marking a significant stride towards effective urban governance and development for the Chadian capital.
The Municipal Agency for Major Works (AMGT) convened a pivotal validation workshop for its strategic documents on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Radisson Blu hotel in N’Djamena. This significant gathering brought together directors, technical managers, municipal administration executives, and experts and consultants from the Center for Innovation and Development (CID).
The opening ceremony featured a solitary, yet impactful address from Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, the Mayor of N’Djamena. He reflected on the inaugural session of the AMGT’s Board of Directors, held just months prior. That foundational meeting, the Mayor emphasized, provided crucial insights into the agency’s mandate, objectives, and ambitions, while also fostering a deeper understanding among board members.
Mayor Abdoulaye underscored the AMGT’s core mission: to bolster the Commune’s capacity in conceptualizing, planning, funding, and executing transformative projects. These initiatives are designed to address the populace’s needs and align with the capital’s ambitious development goals, ultimately ensuring effective governance and robust management tools for N’Djamena’s progress. Recognizing the multifaceted challenges posed by rapid urbanization, population growth, strain on urban infrastructure, sanitation issues, and climate resilience, Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye asserted that the AMGT is poised to play an indispensable role in delivering the essential infrastructure and equipment required for harmonious development.
The Mayor urged all participants to engage actively in the discussions, share their valuable experiences, and offer comprehensive observations and recommendations to refine the documents under review. He conveyed that the caliber of their contributions would fortify the Agency’s institutional bedrock and guarantee its optimal effectiveness in the years ahead. Mayor Abdoulaye reiterated that the success of this vital mission hinges fundamentally on the quality of the AMGT’s organizational structure, the robustness of its operational mechanisms, and the transparency and integrity of its management procedures.
The strategic documents presented for participant scrutiny included: a comprehensive administrative, financial, and accounting management manual, designed to effectively oversee resource management and measure outcomes; a monitoring and evaluation manual, aimed at enhancing performance and cultivating a culture of accountability; and an environmental, social, and gender management framework, ensuring the seamless integration of sustainable development principles, social inclusion, equity, and environmental protection across all of the Agency’s interventions.
