Chad repatriates 162 nationals from Libya with IOM support

Chad has successfully repatriated 162 of its citizens from Benghazi in eastern Libya, supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The operation, managed by Chadian consular authorities, was paired with an awareness campaign to educate the Chadian community in Libya about residency rules and the hazards of irregular migration.

Returning Chadian nationals disembarking in N'Djamena

A total of 162 Chadian nationals returned to N’Djamena after departing from Benghazi in eastern Libya, as part of a voluntary repatriation program coordinated by the Chadian government. The initiative was conducted in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to assist citizens facing challenges abroad.

The operation was spearheaded by the Chadian consulate in Benghazi, ensuring a structured return process for those wishing to leave Libya. This repatriation effort is part of a broader strategy by Chadian authorities to provide safety and support to citizens living overseas, particularly in regions with complex migration dynamics.

Awareness campaign targets Chadian community in Libya

As part of the repatriation initiative, consular teams conducted information sessions for Chadian nationals in Benghazi. Discussions focused on Libya’s residency regulations and the dangers of irregular migration pathways. The goal was to empower the community with knowledge about legal procedures and risks, reducing vulnerability and encouraging compliance with local laws.

Chadian authorities emphasized that this repatriation reflects their commitment to protecting citizens abroad. They also indicated that additional support programs, in collaboration with international partners, may be organized to assist Chadians living in difficult conditions overseas.
