Chad clears financial arrears to CEEAC in show of regional commitment
On July 13, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno of Chad received a high-level delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the organization’s current Chair of the Council of Ministers.
The meeting introduced the newly appointed leadership of the CEEAC Commission, including Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice President.
A key outcome of the discussion was Chad’s commitment to settling its financial obligations to the regional body. The Chadian leader instructed his government to clear all outstanding contributions to the CEEAC budget and ensure timely payments moving forward.
In a statement, President Mahamat emphasized that Chad remains fully dedicated to the CEEAC’s mission, highlighting the organization’s role in supporting transitions in Chad and Gabon toward constitutional order. He reaffirmed his country’s political, economic, and financial backing for the regional institution.
The CEEAC officials outlined their strategic priorities and key challenges, stressing their goal of accelerating economic integration in Central Africa. This includes boosting intra-regional trade, improving transportation infrastructure, facilitating free movement of people and goods, and strengthening the free trade zone.
Following the meeting, Chair Kung praised President Mahamat’s assurances, stressing that the CEEAC’s success depends on both institutional action and member states’ commitment to turning Central Africa into a region of peace, unity, prosperity, and solidarity.
