Chad and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas have officially established diplomatic relations, a significant development marked by the signing of a joint communiqué in New York, as confirmed by Chadian authorities.

The formal document was signed on July 16. Representing Chad was Mouctar Abakar, its permanent representative to the United Nations, while Stan James signed on behalf of the Bahamas.

The communiqué outlines a commitment from both nations to foster cooperation and friendship. This partnership will be built upon foundational principles such as the sovereign equality of states, mutual respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, alongside the crucial principle of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, an island nation nestled in the Caribbean, boasts a population of approximately 420,000. It achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1973. The Bahamian economy thrives primarily on tourism and robust financial services. Renowned globally as a prominent offshore financial center, the country is frequently identified as a tax haven due to its advantageous tax policies and the substantial presence of its international financial sector.

This formalization of diplomatic ties underscores N’Djamena’s strategic objective to broaden and strengthen its international partnerships with various member states across the global community.
