Prime Minister and Head of Government of Chad, Mr. Allamaye Halina, today underscored the deep significance of Algeria-Chad relations, highlighting the fraternal bonds and growing cooperation across multiple sectors. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people for this vital solidarity initiative, which will boost Chad’s electricity production capacity, enhance energy supply, and support economic and social development efforts.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a 40 MW gas turbine power plant in N’Djamena, Mr. Halina welcomed his Algerian counterpart, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, and the accompanying delegation. He noted that the project reflects the shared vision of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and President Tebboune to strengthen bilateral ties.
The plant, a mobile gas turbine unit, stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 22 April 2026 and a donation agreement concluded on 14 May 2026 between the relevant ministries of both nations. The speed at which these commitments became concrete actions demonstrates the quality of dialogue and technical collaboration between Chadian and Algerian teams.
Key benefits of the power plant include:
- Improved electricity access for the population
- Greater stability of the power grid
- Support for economic and productive activities
- Enhanced quality of public services
- Accommodation of the rapid growth of the capital
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Chad’s commitment to ensuring the project’s success by streamlining administrative and logistical procedures, securing the construction site, and rigorously monitoring progress. He described the initiative as a model of African cooperation built on trust and concrete results.
Mr. Halina further emphasised that the power station symbolises more than an infrastructure project—it represents confidence, fraternity, and a resilient future between the two nations. He expressed hope that this would be the first of many joint ventures in energy, infrastructure, health, training, and economic development.
The ceremony also highlighted Algeria’s role in providing expertise and training to ensure autonomous management of the facility, reinforcing the diplomatic bridge between N’Djamena and Algiers.
