Niamey, June 7, 2026 — Niger’s anti-drug campaign reached a critical milestone today as authorities incinerated a massive haul of cocaine seized in coordinated nationwide operations. The event took place at the Central Livestock Laboratory (LABOCEL) under the supervision of the National Anti-Drug Coordination Commission (CNCLD).

Over 319 kilograms of cocaine burned in public destruction
A total of 280 cocaine bricks, weighing 319.745 kilograms, were reduced to ash during today’s controlled incineration. The seized narcotics originated from two major operations: 47 bricks intercepted in Gaya, Dosso region, on September 29, 2025, and 233 bricks confiscated in Zinder on May 19, 2026.
Prior to destruction, forensic experts from the Technical and Scientific Police Directorate (DPTS) conducted rigorous laboratory tests on a representative sample. Analysis confirmed the substance was cocaine hydrochloride (HCL), eliminating any doubt about its classification.
Strict compliance with international drug disposal protocols
During the ceremony, CNCLD Chairman Mai Moussa Elhadji Bashir emphasized that the incineration met all international standards for illicit drug disposal. He highlighted the necessity of timely destruction to mitigate storage risks, particularly given that judicial proceedings can span multiple years before final resolution.

High-level attendance underscores government commitment
The Justice Minister, Alio Daouda, presided over the destruction ceremony, flanked by senior judicial and security officials. Among the distinguished guests were the Niamey Prosecutor General, the Director of the Central Office for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), the LABOCEL Director General, and representatives from the defense and security forces.
This decisive action against drug trafficking sends a clear message about Niger’s unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal networks threatening regional peace and stability.
