The week of June 29 to July 5, 2026, was marked in Burkina Faso by a series of government initiatives, institutional decisions, and major events affecting security, the economy, culture, and sports.

Institutional matters, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo established the IPN-Farafina orientation council. This strategic instance, composed of personalities from diverse backgrounds, will define the institution’s major orientations and promote indigenous values as well as black people’s radiation.

In the dynamics of the Progressive Popular Revolution, a dozen high-ranking officials at the President’s Office embarked on an 21-day patriotic and military immersion. This formation aims to strengthen discipline, self-sacrifice, and cohesion among government servants and defense forces.

On the security front, Ouagadougou welcomed ministers of security from the African Sahel Conference. Received by President Ibrahim Traoré, they discussed strengthening cooperation, free movement of people and goods, and harmonization of control mechanisms within the confederation space.

The Council of Ministers on July 2, 2026 adopted several structuring measures, including the creation of the Faso Technological Academy. This academy aims to form high-level skills in strategic sectors like cybersecurity, nuclear energy, aeronautics, and mining.

The government also announced the creation of CIM-SAHEL, an organization regulating cement markets to combat speculation. Other measures involve clarifying work hours in administration and establishing a new regulatory framework for humanitarian interventions focusing on empowering vulnerable populations.

In the agricultural sector, Prime Minister Ouédraogo visited Yibi’s lowland rice zone in Arbollé commune. This area, developed as part of the ‘Tin Taan Soani’ initiative, showcases government efforts to sustainably support national production.

In the cultural sector, Samendeni welcomed the launching ceremony of the fourth edition of the Internal Tourism Season. For three months, Burkinabé are invited to discover the country’s cultural and touristic riches to boost local tourism and territorial development.

Finally, boxer Abel Hamed Nikiema won the WBA Africa belt after defeating Dossou Faustin Houenou from Benin at Ouagadougou. This continental victory opens new international opportunities for Burkinabé athlete.
