The Burkina Faso women’s national football team completed another round of friendly matches ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). After a goalless draw (0-0), the Stallions and the Eagles locked horns once more on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou, ending in a 2-2 stalemate.

The Mali women’s team struck first, with Fatoumata Diarra putting the Eagles ahead just 10 minutes into the game. The Stallions, however, responded with composure, controlling possession and testing the Malian defense with swift counterattacks.

A rebound off the crossbar fell to Déborah Guira, who capitalized by slotting the ball into the net, leveled the score at 1-1. The Burkina Faso side then asserted their dominance, with Judicaëlle Ouoba drilling a shot past the Malian goalkeeper into the top corner. The Stallions took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

A late surge from Mali

In the second half, the Stallions dominated possession, but the Eagles struggled to break through their disciplined defensive setup. A penalty awarded in the closing stages was converted by Aissata Traoré, restoring parity at 2-2. The final whistle confirmed the draw, capping off an intense and evenly matched encounter.

The first meeting between the two sides had also ended in a scoreless draw. These friendlies are part of their preparations for the Women’s CAN finals, hosted by Morocco next year.

Burkina Faso is drawn in a group with Ivory Coast, Tanzania, and South Africa, while Mali faces Ghana, Cape Verde, and Cameroon. The tournament runs from July 25 to August 16, 2026. The encounter provided Pascal Sawadogo and his squad an opportunity to fine-tune their tactics before the continental showdown.
