Benjamin Cremaschi’s time with Inter Miami has reached its conclusion after the Serie A club Parme activated the American midfielder’s permanent transfer option. The move, valued at just under $5 million, brings an end to his stint in Major League Soccer where he made nine appearances before a season-ending knee injury in March.

The deal provides Miami with valuable salary cap flexibility moving forward. Cremaschi, who began his professional journey in Inter Miami’s youth system, was named the U.S. Young Player of the Year last season and has earned three caps with the national team.

Benjamin Cremaschi in Serie A action

From loan to permanent move in Italy

After months of speculation, Parme secured Cremaschi’s services permanently by triggering the €4 million release clause in his loan agreement, which was originally set to expire in September 2025. The 22-year-old, who joined the Italian side on loan in the summer, will now establish himself in Europe for the long term.

Cremaschi’s path to Parme was shaped by limited opportunities at Inter Miami. Frustrated by reduced playing time and tactical decisions under head coach Javier Mascherano, he publicly expressed his desire for more game action. In August, he stated, “I’m frustrated. I want to play. The most important thing for me is to perform at a high level, and for that, I need playing time and experience. I haven’t had much to do in recent matches, and I don’t think it’s due to my level.”

His comments came as Miami loaned him out to secure his development, a decision that now leads to a permanent move abroad.

A season cut short by injury

Despite joining Parme alongside Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul, Cremaschi struggled to regain his best form early in the campaign. He made his debut in October but saw limited pitch time afterward, culminating in a meniscus injury in March that prematurely ended his season.

His absence, combined with tactical challenges and competition for midfield spots, contributed to his reduced role. The injury has since been treated, and Cremaschi is expected to return to full fitness ahead of the new Serie A season.

Miami’s transfer strategy gains clarity

The permanent departure of Cremaschi may open a door for Inter Miami to pursue other targets. Reports indicate the club is eyeing former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, currently a free agent. With an open roster spot and increased financial flexibility, Miami appears well-positioned to strengthen its squad.

The move also reflects a broader trend in MLS, where clubs balance development of young talents with strategic roster decisions to remain competitive both domestically and in continental competitions.
