The École nationale supérieure de police in Porto-Novo served as the venue on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, for the official commencement of preparatory training sessions for several prestigious qualifications. These include the brevet d’études supérieures de sécurité (Bess), the diplôme d’état-major des forces de sécurité (Demes), and the special staff diploma for security forces.

This academic opening represents a vital milestone in enhancing the operational and intellectual capabilities of the internal security forces in Bénin. Held under the patronage of Inspector General of Police 2nd Class Kokou Brice Allowanou, Director General of the Republican Police, the event brought together a distinguished assembly of military leaders, administrative officials, senior police officers, and members of the academic community.

Strategic objectives and high-level instruction

The Director of the École nationale supérieure de police, Police Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, outlined the primary goals of these training programs. They are designed to equip participants with the skills necessary for high-level responsibilities within the security sector. He emphasized the importance of fostering a forward-looking perspective on security challenges at national, regional, and international levels.

“For this session, the École nationale supérieure de police has assembled a team of highly qualified instructors, including experienced national and international experts, supported by a pedagogical framework dedicated to your success,” he stated. The curriculum will specifically cover police strategy, human and operational resource management, command techniques, and both internal and cross-border security issues.

A commitment to leadership and discipline

Inspector General Kokou Brice Allowanou highlighted the rigorous demands of this continuous professional development and the high expectations placed upon these future senior leaders. Allowanou noted that these stages are a vital chance to sharpen professional expertise and cultivate the leadership spirit required for the senior roles they will occupy in the future. He urged the trainees to approach their studies with strict discipline and unwavering dedication.

The event concluded with an inaugural lecture delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science from the University of Parakou. The presentation focused on the theme: “Rule of law, republican police and security challenges.”

By launching these advanced training cycles, the École nationale supérieure de police aims to further professionalize the Republican Police. This initiative seeks to build an elite security force capable of addressing modern threats while reflecting the broader commitment of the authorities in Bénin to modernize the nation’s sovereign institutions.
