Algeria’s Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, held a significant meeting on Wednesday in Niamey with General Abdourahamane Tiani, the President of Niger and Head of State. During the discussions, Prime Minister Ghrieb conveyed the warm fraternal greetings of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing President Tebboune’s personal dedication to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and robust cooperation between these two sister nations.
The high-level encounter served as a crucial platform to examine various facets of bilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on assessing the progress made since President Tiani’s visit to Algeria last February, particularly the implementation status of agreements reached during his talks with his counterpart, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Furthermore, both delegations addressed ongoing projects and initiatives that were formalized during the second session of the Grand Algero-Nigerien Joint Cooperation Commission, which took place in Niamey just this past March.
During the audience, President Abdourahamane Tiani expressed profound respect for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, extending gratitude for the dedicated focus on bilateral cooperation. This commitment, he noted, significantly facilitated the rapid completion of a crucial electricity plant project. This achievement underscores the deep fraternal and solidarity ties between the two nations, highlighting the leaders’ shared vision for forging a robust and diversified partnership. Such a partnership aims to serve their mutual interests and fulfill the aspirations of their respective peoples for enhanced solidarity, regional integration, and sustainable development.
President Tiani also commended the swift progress of bilateral cooperation projects and programs, characterizing the exceptional momentum in Algero-Nigerien relations as a prime example of successful South-South cooperation. He reiterated his genuine desire, shared with his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to elevate the relationship between Algeria and Niger to unprecedented heights.
In turn, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb applauded the rapid advancement of cooperative ties, marking their entry into a new phase defined by shared political commitment and tangible on-the-ground execution of agreed-upon projects and programs. This progress, he affirmed, is a direct result of the high-level directives from both nations’ leaders and their dedication to consistent and rigorous oversight of the jointly established roadmap.
Mr. Ghrieb further underscored Algeria’s unwavering commitment to continuously enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly across vital sectors. These include energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure development, healthcare, vocational training, higher education, digital transformation, and transportation. He also pledged continued monitoring and realization of pivotal regional projects, all designed to foster economic growth and strengthen regional integration.
The discussions also encompassed the oversight of commercial and economic cooperation initiatives and strategic regional undertakings. Both sides emphasized the imperative of accelerating implementation to bolster economic development and deepen regional integration across the board.
Addressing regional matters, the two parties thoroughly reviewed current challenges. They stressed the importance of sustained bilateral consultation and coordination as essential strategies to overcome these obstacles, thereby contributing significantly to fostering peace, security, and stability throughout the region.
