The first stone of the Yaoundé drinking water supply network reconfiguration project was laid on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Minkoameyos. This initiative aims to sustainably improve access to clean water for several localities in Cameroon’s capital and its outskirts.
The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday at the esplanade of the Yaoundé VII town hall in Minkoameyos. The event was chaired by the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, in the presence of Camwater’s Director General, Dr. Blaise Moussa, along with government members, diplomatic corps, local elected officials, and civil society representatives.
Ordered by President Paul Biya, this key project aims to strengthen drinking water supply for the populations of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo, particularly those not yet connected to the network or facing frequent interruptions.
Non-domestic subscribers, including industries, schools, and hospitals, are also among the main beneficiaries of this initiative.
To ensure the project’s success, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba called on all stakeholders to work hand in hand and in perfect synergy to facilitate the execution of field operations. For his part, the Camwater DG assured that his institution would spare no effort to accompany and support the lifting of any constraints for the realization of this major project, for the benefit of the populations of Yaoundé and its surroundings, whose needs are growing daily.
