In its latest guidelines, the Embassy highlighted that Malian security forces have intensified their presence across Bamako, deploying additional checkpoints, establishing roadblocks, and possibly closing certain thoroughfares. These actions are likely to cause significant traffic delays and may impact daily commutes for residents and visitors alike.
With the upcoming religious holiday season, including Aïd al-Adha (Tabaski) on May 27, concerns over public safety are expected to rise. The Embassy has advised American nationals to minimize non-essential travel within the country until the end of the month. Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid crowded areas, protests, and any unauthorized attempts to bypass security barriers.
Additional precautions include maintaining heightened situational awareness, securing personal belongings, and ensuring travel documents are up to date and easily accessible.
