Terror attack at Niamey airport claimed by JNIM amid France accusations

The full scope of the terrorist assault on Thursday, June 18, 2026, against the Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey has come to light. After hours of clearing operations, Niger’s military authorities released an official casualty report. The assault, which lasted over two hours of intense clashes, was claimed by the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaïda affiliate. The attack was successfully repelled by the Nigerien Defense and Security Forces.
