Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, president of the Borkou Provincial Council, was taken into custody Thursday evening in N’Djamena and transferred to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police, according to security sources.
The arrest occurred inside the premises of Hôtel La Résidence just before 5:00 p.m. It follows a legal complaint filed for defamation and public insults against the official.
Investigative documents reveal that the complaint was lodged by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who accuse Ahmat Bedei Toullomi of spreading false claims on social media. Among these accusations, he alleged their involvement in a cocaine trafficking ring operating in Chad.
The complainants vehemently deny these allegations, labeling them as « completely false, baseless, and slanderous, » insisting that such statements have severely damaged their honor and public standing.
A formal arrest warrant was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of Major Instance, summoning Ahmat Bedei Toullomi to address the accusations leveled against him.
Prior to this, he had been repeatedly summoned for questioning but failed to appear. After more than ten days of unanswered summons, law enforcement proceeded with the arrest to bring him before the appropriate authorities for an official hearing.
Minutes after his detention, a statement was posted at 5:10 p.m. on his Facebook page reading: « Either the Marshal stands with us all, or the traffickers are stronger than the law. I have been abducted. »
At present, this remains an arrest conducted within the bounds of a judicial procedure.
