Dakar’s partnership with the World Bank has reached a new milestone. During a meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on August 5, Ousmane Diagana, the institution’s Vice President for West and Central Africa, unveiled a funding package of 340 billion CFA francs—approximately $598.4 million—earmarked for critical sectors in the country. This financial injection underscores the international lender’s renewed confidence in the structural reforms spearheaded by Senegal’s new leadership.

This substantial investment is designed to bolster transformative projects across agriculture, transportation, and resilience programs tailored for youth and women—key pillars of sustainable development.

Reforms earn global backing

Beyond the financial package, Senegal’s presidency revealed that the World Bank will extend direct budgetary support to the state while expanding performance-based financing mechanisms. These commitments reflect the international institution’s strong endorsement of the reforms implemented since Bassirou Diomaye Faye assumed office, aiming to enhance public policy efficiency and accelerate the nation’s economic transformation.

Energy, agriculture and governance take center stage

Discussions highlighted strategic priorities such as lowering energy costs and accelerating solar transition; strengthening agricultural resilience to secure food sovereignty; improving the business climate; and modernizing public finances alongside governance upgrades.

Long-term partnership aligned with Senegal 2050 vision

Both parties also explored the framework for a new partnership agreement to guide their collaboration over the next decade. This initiative will align with Senegal 2050, the government’s roadmap to drive sustainable economic growth and enhance the country’s appeal on the global stage.
