Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye has issued a stern warning to Cameroon’s government, demanding immediate and decisive action against escalating sexual violence and femicides plaguing the nation.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Senate’s second ordinary session in Yaoundé, Abdoulaye—who also serves as Lamido of Rey Bouba—highlighted the growing threat these crimes pose to society’s most defenseless members, particularly women and children.

The Senate leader’s remarks came amid a national outcry following the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé, an incident that has sparked widespread protests and calls for justice. Abdoulaye condemned such acts as grave violations of human dignity and fundamental rights, emphasizing that they demand urgent and coordinated responses from authorities.

« Sexual violence against women and children, along with femicides, must be met with unwavering determination and robust measures », he stated, urging the government to strengthen prevention and enforcement mechanisms to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

His address was delivered in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, National Assembly President, and several cabinet members, signaling the gravity of the issue at the highest levels of government.
