The Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé, 19, from RB Leipzig in a deal reportedly worth €140 million including bonuses. This move marks the club’s most expensive transfer in its history.

The club confirmed the acquisition in a statement, stating: « Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Yan Diomandé, who will join our team for the next seven seasons, until June 30, 2033. » The communiqué did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.

Record-breaking transfer shakes up European football

According to Spanish media reports, the deal was finalized around €140 million, bonuses included, positioning Diomandé as the most expensive player in Real Madrid’s history and the priciest African footballer ever signed by a European club. This figure surpasses previous records held by players like his Ivorian teammate Bryan Mbeumo (Manchester United).

The young talent arrived at Leipzig in summer 2025 from Leganés, a club based in Madrid’s outskirts, where he quickly made an impact. Last season, he delivered a standout performance in the Bundesliga, netting 12 goals and providing 8 assists, earning him the title of Breakthrough Player of the Year.

His versatility as a right or left winger, combined with his standout performances at the recent World Cup in North America, made him one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market.

Integration into a star-studded lineup

Diomandé becomes the sixth signing for Real Madrid this summer, following the arrivals of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella, French defender Ibrahima Konaté, Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries, and Spanish striker Carlos Espi.

The Ivorian sensation is expected to slot into the starting XI on the right flank alongside global stars Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior, under the guidance of Portuguese manager José Mourinho. This marks Mourinho’s return to the Madrid dugout, 13 years after his first stint as head coach.

The transfer underscores Real Madrid’s relentless pursuit of top-tier talent to bolster their squad for the upcoming seasons.

With his explosive pace, technical skills, and proven goal-scoring ability, Diomandé is poised to become a key asset for the Spanish giants as they aim for continued dominance in European competitions.
