Paris Saint-Germain falls short of ratings record in Champions League final
The Paris Saint-Germain could not break their own television ratings record in their Champions League final against Arsenal. Last season’s triumph over Inter Milan, which saw them win 5-0, attracted an average of 11.5 million viewers. This year, their repeat victory fell short of expectations.
On M6, the match drew 6.2 million viewers, with a peak of 13.5 million during the final moments. Canal+ attracted an additional 2.9 million viewers, resulting in over two million fewer viewers on free-to-air television compared to last season’s final.
A scheduling conflict with the third round of Roland-Garros’ match featuring Moïse Kouamé played a key role in the dip in viewership. The 17-year-old French tennis prodigy’s match began at 4:15 PM, just as PSG’s Champions League final kicked off at 6 PM. Despite the timing clash, Kouamé still pulled in 3 million viewers for his match, though ratings dipped as the football final commenced.
“I caught the penalty shootout—worst timing ever!” Kouamé joked in his post-match press conference, wearing a PSG jersey despite his team’s loss. “Losing my match was tough, but at least I got to see the thrilling finish of PSG’s victory.” The young player, defeated 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-7(9-11) by Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, maintained his composure throughout.
