Addressing a large crowd of PASTEF members and senior leaders, the party chief explicitly stated that his political organization would not support any move leading to a postponement of the polls. “PASTEF will not agree to a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he declared, drawing cheers from his supporters.
Continuing his speech, Sonko emphasized that any postponement must, in his view, adhere to the institutional mechanisms prescribed by law. “In any case, an election postponement in Senegal is only possible after a vote in the National Assembly,” he stated, while urging the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure the election takes place.
The PASTEF leader also appeared to respond to speculation about the electoral calendar. “Let the president sign the decree; delay will not save anything,” he said.
