Olympique Lyonnais officials approached the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) with a request to postpone their opening Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse FC, scheduled for August 22. The club sought this adjustment to ease scheduling pressures in the event of Champions League playoff involvement, but the governing body rejected the proposal outright.

The Lyonnais are set to compete in the Champions League third qualifying round, with potential ties scheduled for August 4/5 and August 11. Should they advance further, midweek Champions League playoffs could conflict with Ligue 1 fixtures. This request mirrors similar appeals made by Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg earlier in the season. However, the LFP declined Lyon’s petition during a Monday evening board meeting via videoconference.
